Schauer Center

Schauer Center

New Van

The Schauer Arts and Activities Center had the opportunity to purchase a used van that was just what they needed and in excellent shape. The only thing they lacked was all of the funding needed to fonalize the purchase. In the past, the Schauer Center had to hire transportation for performing artists or take multiple trips in their small aging van to get the groups from the airport or to school outreach programs. Thanks to help from the Hartford Area Foundation, the Schauer Center can now provide timely and comfortable transportation for the artists that perform there.

Friends of Pike Lake

Friends of Pike Lake

New Amphitheater

The friends of Pike Lake is a local volunteer organization that enhances the environment and programs at Pike Lake State Park. They host naturalist presentations, community campfires and candlelight ski events at the park, filling in the gaps that state funding cannot support. The programs and presentations that they sponsor are done on a hillside just inside the park entrance. The Friends had a vision that it would enhance the programming if there was a more inviting and comfortable place to host these events. A design for and open-air amphitheater to be constructed on the State Park grounds was proposed and they began raising the needed funds to make the idea a reality. The Hartford Area Foundation was pleased to make a grant to help fund the project and enhance Pike Lake State Park which is one of the jewels of our community.

Additional contribution to Riverbank Project

The Volunteers for a Beautiful Hartford (VBH) , formerly the Garden Club, have done so much to enhance the Hartford community that it would be difficult to list all of their projects. We all take for granted the beautiful flower beds around our parks, streets and downtown Hartford that enrich our community image. The Hartford Area Foundation has been a long time supporter of their beautification efforts. Most recently the Foundation provided another grant for VBH to continue their work on the millstream restoration project. This area had become a forgotten, overgrown area in the downtown and is now being transformed into an area of natural beauty.

Testimonials

"Over the last year and a half, the "Friends of Pike Lake" have been trying to raise funds to build an amphitheater in the state park. With your generous donation and that of several other organizations and individuals, we have finally met our goal. Construction of the amphitheater will begin this summer and should be done for our fall Community Campfire and Sing Along. It would not have happened without your help."

~ Friends of Pike Lake

"Hartford is a more "Flowerful" place thanks to the support of the Hartford Area Foundation. Volunteers for a Beautiful Hartford (VBH), is very appreciative of the annual grant given to our group to beautify the community. We are able to focus on planting, weeding and watering instead of having to spend time fundraising to cover our costs."
